A bespoke experience

When working together with a Personal Wine Advisor from The Wine Society, you can expect a one-on-one service and highly personalised recommendations. Although you have a single point of contact, your Advisor is supported by an entire team of experts who make carefully considered suggestions to perfectly match your personal taste profile, means and occasion.

Driven by passion

Our Personal Wine Advisors really do love wine. They love the layers, the textures, the stories and experiences it has to offer. Wade and his team are continually seeking out the best and most exciting wines that South Africa has to offer and then custom match their finds to your specific requirements.

The finest reward

Your Advisor not only makes recommendations but shares the winemakers’ story and philosophy with you too so that you can present your choice to your guests with confidence. Our goal is to ensure that your family, friends and colleagues feel that you’ve just introduced them to a fresh discovery in wine – the ultimate compliment indeed.

We invite you to join us on a shared journey of discovery.

At the heart of The Wine Society is Wade Bales. If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting him you can’t help but warm to his friendly, dynamic and energetic nature. His innate excitement and enthusiasm for working with wine – and most importantly the men and women behind it – is contagious. It is a creativity that infuses the very fabric of The Wine Society team, which is a quality that is invaluable itself.

Mayleen Hellyer

Based in Cape Town, we have the privileged of having numerous wine estates on our very doorstep. And even though I have been in the industry for over 10 years, I never stop learning – and most of all tasting – to determine quality and passing this knowledge onto our customers.

Denise Coleman

I have been involved in the Wine Industry for close to a decade and I love working at The Wine Society. Most of all I enjoy engaging with our diverse clients, getting to know them and introducing them to richer vistas that a journey of wine discovery can offer them. Not to mention our monthly trips to different producers which is also part of my ‘job’.

Brandon Chedburn

After living abroad and tasting wines from different countries, I returned to South African and entered the wine industry. Since joining The Wine Society in 2006, I have had the pleasure of working with diverse wine lovers, collectors and drinkers. It’s incredibly rewarding to work in such a dynamic industry and be able to speak to clients who are as enthusiastic about wine as I am. Since entering the industry, my taste buds have never known a dull moment.

Kim Dickson Greeff

Given that my parents were both highly involved in the Wine Education side of the wine industry, I have been exposed to this wonderfully diverse business from a young age. But I truly fell in love when I started studying wine in earnest. There are so many interesting levels and layers within the wine industry, including the immensely enjoyable aspect of tasting/drinking. It gives me great pleasure that The Wine Society affords me the opportunity to offer our clients a great selection of outstanding wines.

Sally Tebbutt

I am passionate about wine and people, which makes a great combination. I enjoy nothing more than having a client love one of our recommendations so much so that he or she asks for more, or better yet, requests that we contact a friend who tasted the wine at their home and who wants to discover more. That to me is a job well done.

Karen Meyer

With more than a decade’s worth of experience in the wine industry, I have a clear understanding of viticulture and great passion for wines – especially those of outstanding quality. I love working with my colleagues at The Wine Society to match the right wine to our client’s specific requirements and taste preferences. The clients’ enjoyment and satisfaction is my motivation, be they a casual quaffer or connoisseur. After all, wine is the water of the good life.

Colin Rinquest

Being a wine consultant at The Wine Society is wonderfully challenging and rewarding. We constantly strive to provide our clients with the ideal wine for their personal taste, budget and event. We go to great lengths to discover the lesser knowns, the up-and-comings and the soon-to-be-greats (not overlooking the tried-and-trusteds too, of course). I believe that this approach is what separates us from the rest. We pride ourselves as specialists in our field. There is nothing more rewarding than a client who trusts your palate and judgment, and refers you to his friends and colleagues. That alone cultivates motivation and a genuine passion for wine.

Kathi Purcell

The enjoyment of interacting with my clients is accentuated by the fact that I am continuously learning and am able to share my knowledge with our clients. Discovering new wine estates, grape varietals, different styles of wines and the little gems are all highlights of the job. At the end of the day, having a delicious glass of wine with the perfect meal has got to be one of life’s great pleasures.
